Research Interests and Focus
Dr.Guo's research focuses on applied basic research in ecosystem services, ecological security assessment, cultural landscape protection, and ecological planning and evaluation in ethnic minority areas, particularly in regions such as the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Southeast Guizhou, and Inner Mongolia. The main areas of research include:

  1. The theory, methods, and technologies for quantifying the structure and patterns of regional ecosystems

  2. The dynamics and driving mechanisms of ecosystem service patterns

  3. The quantitative relationship between regional ecosystem structure and patterns and typical ecological processes and functions

  4. The protection and management of cultural landscapes

Dr.Guo has conducted extensive research on ecological protection and sustainable environmental management in ethnic areas, integrating ecological and anthropological theories and methods. He employs technologies such as remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), artificial intelligence analysis, and computer simulation, combining these with field surveys to study ecological planning and assessment. The research emphasizes critical issues like improving ecosystem services and human well-being.

Research Projects and Achievements
Dr.Guo has led numerous projects, including topics under the Science and Technology Support Program, National Key Research and Development Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and regional joint research projects. He has published over 130 research papers in the field of ecology and has authored 8 books.

Teaching and Mentorship
Dr.Guo teaches several undergraduate and graduate courses, with a strong focus on talent development and guiding students in their academic and career paths. He has mentored many undergraduates, some of whom have published papers in top-tier journals as first authors. Several of his students have gone on to pursue graduate studies at prestigious institutions such as Peking University, University of Hong Kong, University College London, Imperial College London, National University of Singapore, and New York University. He has also guided numerous graduate students to pursue doctoral degrees at top universities including York University, University of Edinburgh, University of Leeds, Leiden University, Sun Yat-sen University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Dr.Guo has led 2 teaching reform projects and has mentored 40 graduate students. He has participated in the National Innovation and Talent Introduction Program and established long-term collaboration with laboratories at the National University of Singapore, State University of New York, and Stanford University.
