Teaching

The courses for graduate and undergraduate students: Conservation Biology, Advanced Ethno-ecology, Biosafety and Management for Genetically-modified Organisms, Conservation and Management of Natural Resources, Biodiversity and Traditional Knowledge.

Research Interests

The main research focuses: Biodiversity conservation - strategy and policies; Management for nature reserves; Environmental economics; Protection of genetic resources; Bio-safety for genetically-modified organisms; Access and benefit-sharing for traditional knowledge in minority communities.

The conducted researches: Chaired more than 50 international and national research projects, including the projects under China National Key Scientific and Technology Program and National Platform on Basic Science and Technology during 1991-2010. Since 1988 so far, as the Chinese governmental assigned expert representative, have been participating in drafting, negotiation and implementation of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to CBD and Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to CBD. As the chief scientist in biodiversity under Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, Chaired a series of national projects to implement CBD and its protocols, such as: Survey and Inventory of Biodiversity in the Key Areas of China during 2004-2011, China National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (2011-2030), the National Layout Plan for Conservation and Sustainable Use of Bio-species in China (2006-2020), China National Biosafety Framework, etc. During 2008-2017, as the leading scientist, have been conducting the project of Innovation and Foreign Expertise Introduction Base for Ethno-biology and Biological Resources Protection & Use Technologies, funded by Ministry of Education and State Foreign Experts Administration of China.
